Open Championship Regional Qualifier Not Far Away!
Not long to go now! Firstly, let me set the scene for how difficult this year's preparations have been for Nick Nottingham and his team of greenkeepers.
Since Monday we have seen 3 thunder storms, each dropping a deluge of water - 80ml. Therefore, each effort to restore the course back to the order they want for the Open Qualifier has been set back each time we have a down pour. Sand washed from bunker faces, flooded green and fringes etc.
So, you can imagine the frustration Nick and his team must be feeling right now.
With that said, they have done an unbelievably good job to keep the course in top condition, and with a little bit of dry weather in the run up to Monday it will, once again, be in fantastic condition and a real test for all players.
So, hats off to Nick and his team for their incredible hard work in the run up to Monday. They really deserve every bit of praise possibly - you would not know how hard they work and the hours put in to make it a success year after year!
In terms of my own preparation - it's getting there. I was out on the course at 6:45am this morning to put the practice to the test. Progress is being made I feel, so we shall see how it transfers into Monday. I have to say, having played the course this morning; it really is in superb condition. Even after another storm yesterday evening!
All tee times are now allocated and Luffenham Heath are represented by no less than 6 players from the Golf club, which is fantastic! Those who are representing from Luffenham are:
- Ian Burnett - 10:39am
- Sam Sharpe - 09:55am
- Michael Farr - 10:06am
- Will Chamberlain - 11:23am
- Charles Petrie - 12:45pm
- Michael Pressick - 12:45pm
Monday, 20 June is the date of play, so if you are thinking of coming up to watch some golf (good golf at that - hopefully), it is always a great day!

US Open 2016 - Oakmont Well, it appears it's not only Luffenham Heath that is receiving heavy downpours at the moment. If you have had chance to watch any of the golf, you would have seen that play was suspended on day 1 due to severe rainfall! Its come around quickly this years US Open and once again, it's the case that just about anyone in the field has a chance of winning.
This year's venue, Oakmont Country Club is described as arguably the most difficult course in North America and certainly the most difficult on the US Open rotation. With 210 deep bunkers and fast and firm greens, it really is the greatest test for the greatest players in the world of golf. So again, a few exciting nights ahead watching how they plan their way around this tough golf course.
