Tuesday Night Stableford
Well it was a beautiful day for golf on Tuesday, contraire to what the weather man said it was blue sky’s, not a lot of wind and most importantly no rain or thunder! For the people that didn’t look at the weather the course was playing very nicely and there for the taking.
Tom, Sam and I went out for 12 holes and had a very close game, I started in my usually manor of hitting a slight hook down the first fairway, pulling my second shot just left of the green and chipping in for a birdie, this upset Sam as he hit two nice shots to around 8 feet and lipped out for his birdie, he would normally take this in his stride but when the loser pays for supper things get a lot more serious. Sam then made a couple of birdies to get to 2 under for the front 9. I’m now 2 behind. After letting me back in to the match by loosing a ball right on 10 he brought out his trusty provisional ball .The sad little ball has played 300 – 400 shots in its lifetime. It was once pure white, round and had no marking on it. Now look at it! Anyway to cut a long story short Sam holed a nice 10 footer for a half – honours even. Even if its was a 360 horseshoe I’m not too bitter. If you’re wondering what happened to Tom, well for someone who is struggling to walk and not sure how many holes he is capable of 1 over was pretty good.
Whilst sitting eating supper Neil Wedge appeared through the trophy cabinet with a beaming smile on his face. We knew that he had done something rather special so asked his score, it wasn’t that. He then proceeded to talk us through his 18th hole. A well struck driver straight down the middle next to pro’s hollow left him with a full hybrid at the green, going for the green in two he pushed his hybrid right in to the grass mounds. When he got to his ball he thought “this probably wasn’t the side to miss it with a front right pin position”, with that in mind he pulled out one of his distant relative Mr Lob Wedge! Get it? (Mr Wedge, Mr Sand Wedge & Mr Lob Wedge) flicked it up in the air, it came down just over the bunker and hopped straight in the hole. The ball deserved something special after sticking with him for 5 rounds of golf!
