Although this winters has been amongst the wettest for most of the country, I think the Rutland area has got away with it, most of the time. Cast your mind back 12 months and it was minus 4 and below at night and the frost never came out of the ground all day and that's if there wasn't 6 inches of snow! This winter has been warm and wet. Being predominantly on clay, Luffenham does not drain too well. However, we have had lots of wind helping to dry out the course. Plus, Nick Nottingham and the team of greenkeepers clearing the drains. The Net result being there has been a golf course on proper greens, quite dry for most of the winter. Keep your fingers crossed another 5-6 weeks and Spring should be round the corner. British Summer Time, The Masters and of course the Worlds most iconic club competition - The Tuesday Night Stableford!
A close look at Luffenham's calendar and you will see there is not one pro-am - but two to look forward too. The first one is a 1pm shotgun start on Wednesday 23rd April - St Georges Day "come on England" followed by a prize presentation after the round. Sounds like a lot of fun to me, so if you fancy entering a team please let either the shop or the office know. The team entry is £255
Count Down Tuesday Night Stableford.
Tuesday Nights start 1st April. As many of you have played in them for years, you will know all about them. For those newer members it's a fantastic way to meet other members, make new friends and get your handicap down. "
There are one or two courtesies for Tuesday Nights which we in the shop need all players to adopt. TNS runs from 2 - 5.30 every Tuesday.
2 ball play is mandatory. To avoid the jamming effect on then course we will again ask you to tee off only when the group in front is on the second tee. This was tried over the last couple of years and met with universal approval. "
Please enter the shop, pay your entrance fee (£4) and wait to be paired up by one of the shop staff. This means that no golfer is ever left waiting for too long. It only ever takes one pre arranged game to potentially leave one person without a game and feeling unloved.
Whilst playing keep moving, if you hit a ball into difficulty look for it yourself don't except the other player to help you. Let quicker players through. Try your hardest to play 18 in around 3 hours. Then the best bit - have a beer in the clubhouse and something to eat.
Summer Knockout Entries
Yes, it is that time of year again - Summer knockouts.
The winter knockouts are drawing to a close and the summer knockout entries are being taken in the shop. If you would like to enter just pop into the shop, pay the entrance fee and that's it.
