More Light for Golf

Sunday 31st March marks the start of BST, when the clocks go forward and we lose an hour in bed.

However, I believe this to be a small price to pay when you weigh up the upside how gained time in evening will benefit our golf games.

I’m sure many of you cannot wait to embark on the 5pm weekday migration from office desk to first tee – it’s one that the Professional Staff are very familiar with!

Tuesday Night Stableford

Allow me to present you with a friendly reminder that the start of April marks a very exciting time – it’s only 2 weeks until the Tuesday Night Stableford starts up again and we get locked into another enthralling Race to Ketton (won by Neil Wedge in 2018).

For those of you who are not aware of the Tuesday Night Stableford (TNS), it is a tradition of the golf club which allows gentlemen to ‘turn up and play’ from 14:00 to 17:30 on a Tuesday afternoon. Not only is it a great way to lower one’s handicap but it is also an fantastic social event where you have a chance to meet members you may not have come across before.

There is also the option to stay for a cooked dinner and have a drink after your round. It’s £4.00 to enter for which you pay in the shop before and we pair you up!

The first meeting is on the 16th April – we look forward to seeing you there!

Masters week is less than a week away!

In the world of golf…

Kevin Kisner recorded his first World Golf Championship title after beating Matt Kuchar 3&2 in the final of the WGC-Dell Match Play Championships.

For Kisner it proved second-time lucky in this event, only the year before he finished runner-up, losing out to Bubba Watson.

He got off to an early start with a 12-foot birdie putt converted at the first and from there managed to hold off Kuchar, who struggled to get anything going in the final match of the Championship. This year’s WGC-Dell Match Play also saw Tiger Woods playing some great golf and looking even more like his old self – check out this clip to see why Tiger’s famous fist pump is making a return:

Make your putting fun

Have you ever found yourself on the green with an outside shot of birdie, only to go and three-putt? Yep, we’ve all done it, however, if the thought of heading to the practice green hardly fills you with excitement, why not try a putting game to increase the fun?

1st one in wins

Ramp up the pressure with a playing partner on the practice green with a game of first one in wins. The premise is simple:

Pick two holes that are 10-foot apart
You and a playing partner stand at opposite ends (as per the picture above)
Hit putts at the same time to the other hole
Every putt that is holed is worth one point
First to three points wins

You will be amazed at how quickly you dial your putts in under pressure. Just remember, if you’re the winner, make sure you get your playing partner to treat you to a drink in the clubhouse after your round.
