Welcome to another edition of the shop newsletter. This week we go over results in this week’s club competition’s, take a look at some new gear in the shop and figure out the best way to play the fourth hole at Luffenham –hopefully shaving some shots off your next round! Enjoy the read. |
Weekly Round Up The final week of May started with a bank holiday on the Monday, which some members clearly used to fine tune their games for Tuesday’s competitions! The ladies played in the Ladies England Golf Trust Stableford, It was a fine turn out which saw Fledgling Member Vivien Parshall come out on top with an excellent round of 38 points in the Stableford. A score that was good enough to cut 2 shots off her handicap! Vivien continues to show an excellent start to her playing career at Luffenham. Well done to Joan Greenfield who also did well to drop a shot of her handicap with a score of 35, which was good enough for 3rd place. Another very good turnout for the Tuesday Night Stableford returned some very good scores. It was greenkeeper Darren Child of Littlestone Golf Club who pipped Andrew Fitzmaurice to the post. Both shot scores of 38 points but Child’s back 9 score of 38 points was good enough to take the ‘W’. Consolation for Fitzmaurice though, whose performance earned him an Exceptional Scoring Reduction, dropping him from 8 to a new playing handicap of 6, congratulations! |
Tiger’s Golf Ball Some of you may have noticed that we have a new ball manufacturer in the shop. However, for those who aren’t familiar with Bridgestone golf balls. Their Tour B X and Tour B XS provide fantastic feel for more birdies whilst not sacrificing distance, letting you attack the golf course with confidence. All this comes at a very respectable price for such a premium golf ball - £10 a sleeve, could perhaps provide a lower cost option against the Pro V1 and ProV1x. Well, if they’re good enough for Tiger… |
You have three options Garmin is the market leader when it comes golf GPS devices, so buying your dad one of these three stylish GPS watches for Father's Day is one hell of a present: Approach S10 - £119.99 (save £20) Approach S60 - £299.99 (save £100) Approach S60 Premium - £399.99 (save £80)
The choice is yours, but all three make for the ideal gift this Father's Day. |

Pro’s tip - Hole 4 The fourth hole is one that can be easily navigated in four shots – as long as you leave your golf ball in the right place. From the tee, the aim has to be getting the ball in the fairway and far enough up so that you can have a view of the green clearly for your second. A blind shot is always harder! From the white tees choose a club that will go 200 yards, this should keep you short of the troublesome fairway bunker on the right, but should provide an adequate view of the green. Keep in mind the approach shot plays a good 10-15-yards downhill when selecting your club into the green. If you wish to air on the side of caution further, the only good miss on hole 4 is short of the green. Misses to either side of the green and long can all prove very tricky indeed. Hit to the front edge, allow the ball to release into the centre of the green, navigate a 2 putt and walk to the next! |
Nice guys finish last – so do bad ones Matt Kuchar’s ‘nice guy’ reputation took another hit at the Memorial Tournament after attempting to claim a free drop when his ball came to rest in an existing pitch mark on the 17th fairway. The Rules of Golf state that a player is allowed to move their ball out of a pitch mark without penalty IF it came from their ball. However, Kuchar was attempting to claim that his ball ‘broke new ground’ when it came to rest thus becoming his own pitch mark, but the rules officials were having none of it. After being accused of short-changing a caddie back in February and his Sergio Garcia match-play controversy in Austin, it is safe to say Kuchar’s popularity has plummeted with this latest headline making incident yet again. This time it clearly affected Kuchar as a 73 and 74 resulted in the American failing to make the cut. |
Time for a little reflection |
Who doesn’t love the month of June? Long evenings, blistering sunshine (might be a little optimistic here) and plenty of opportunities to hit the course. With much of the season left to go and more competitions on the horizon, it’s time to take note of how you’ve been playing so far this year. |
Scenario 1 Hopefully, you've been playing regularly to your handicap or, better still, shooting under it. If that’s the case then happy days, keep up the good work! But we all know there’s room for improvement. Perhaps you don’t use a particular club as often as you could simply out of a lack of confidence with it? Or maybe you’re struggling with a destructive shot that is impacting your scores?
|
Scenario 2 On the other hand, you might be struggling to put a good score together no matter what you try. Some of you may be recalling a lesson you had from several years back or searching the web for a quick-fix only to be suffering further? Whether you’re in need of lessons, new equipment or a confidence boost, make sure you utilise our professional advice and skill set by speaking to a member of the team in-store. |
