Are pro's hitting it too long? Phil Mickelson may have fallen just short of victory at Pebble Beach but he didn’t fall short on having his say on the R&A and USGA’s newly published Distance Insight Report. The long-awaited 13-page document essentially states that further average hitting distances would be detrimental to the future of the game and although it does not offer a solution, it does hint at possibilities such as conformance tests for clubs and balls. Lefty was a little concerned saying: ‘I don't feel that you should punish the athletes for getting better’. However, Saudi International winner Graeme McDowell agreed that the increase in distances ‘really needs to stop somewhere’. Now, both governing bodies will conduct a broad review of golf equipment and ball specifications to see if a solution can be found. But what do you think?
