Luffenham taking shape
It is now that time of year where players from all around the region, including myself, and also Luffenham Heath members begin to get excited in preparation for another Open Championship regional Qualifier at Luffenham Heath.
As you can imagine, a lot of preparation goes in to making this a highlight for the golf club. With the clubhouse extension now all but completed and the golf course in fantastic condition, I am sure players and spectators will be very impressed with Luffenham Heath this year and something to be proud of for the members.
Course conditions
If you have been out on the golf course over the last few weeks, you will start to notice a difference in the course playability, just about every time you play. We have had some very indifferent weather over recent weeks, with cooler than normal temperatures, strong winds at time and patches of constant dry weather conditions.
All of this contributes to how the golf course takes shape and how it plays. First thing that you will begin to notice is how quickly the rough is starting to grow, which begins to narrow the golf course, giving it some definition. Secondly, it is no surprise that the golf course is getting very firm, with all the winds we have been having has dried the course out a lot.
Therefore, the golf course is getting bouncy and requires a different game strategy for these conditions. Accuracy of the tee is imperative, as a loose tee shot will result in a drop shot at least. Therefore, if you feel your game is at stage where you struggling with which club to take of the tea or afraid of leaking a shot in to the heavy rough, all three of us in the shop, as you know, are passionate about improving your golf.
Make this season a good one! A lesson is all it can take to start to shoot better scores and hit nicer shots that will increase your confidence when venturing out on to the golf course.
Cleveland Wedge Deal
Have a quick look in your golf bag, and in particular, your wedges. Just think how many times in a round you use your wedges. Especially, your favourite wedge, whether it is a 54, 56, 58 degree etc it will start to deteriorate over time. Bunker shots for example, is one way that will smooth off the edges of the groove, which consequently reduces the spin imparted on to the golf ball.
Over the lifetime of a wedge, the lower grooves will begin to round off, which reduces the friction between club and ball as the ball moves up the clubface through impact. Therefore, a sharper set of grooves icreases friction on the ball, creating more spin and greater control of your wedge play. Have a look at the difference between the two clubs below and you will understand what I mean.
Well, now is the perfect time to change your wedges and get the consistency of your scoring game back. You will start to notice a huge difference in the playability.
