Not long to go now…

With only 10 days now and counting to go until the Regional Qualifier for The Open Championship, practice and preparation is well under way. I have tried to dedicate a bit more time this year to practice and work on my game, so that I am in a position on the golf course to be able to think where to hit the ball, as opposed to how to hit the golf ball. Not always the case mind you!

Over the previous two occasions, I have not felt as good about my game as I do this time around. I qualified the first year to final qualifying having played well enough on the day, but I personally felt I had not played to my potential that day. However, to be able to not play at my best and still qualify was very pleasing. 

So, although I am feeling good about my game, does not necessarily mean I will qualify. But, I will certainly be giving it my all to do so.



Cleveland Wedge Deal

Have a quick look in your golf bag, and in particular, your wedges. Just think how many times in a round you use your wedges. Especially, your favourite wedge, whether it is a 54, 56, 58 degree etc it will start to deteriorate over time. Bunker shots for example, is one way that will smooth off the edges of the groove, which consequently reduces the spin imparted on to the golf ball.

Over the lifetime of a wedge, the lower grooves will begin to round off, which reduces the friction between club and ball as the ball moves up the clubface through impact. Therefore, a sharper set of grooves icreases friction on the ball, creating more spin and greater control of your wedge play. Have a look at the difference between the two clubs below and you will understand what I mean.
