Another Major Season Over
It does not seem five minutes since we were all excited about getting ready to sit down and watch The Masters. Well, four months have passed since then and we really have been treated to some fantastic viewing this year.
I am glad, and I am sure the entire golfing population would agree, that Jason Day has finally won a major championship that he duly deserves. It was looking like he was going to replicate the efforts of Sergio Garcia, to come so close, time and time again but never quite make the breaks needed to triumph.
Only two months after collapsing on his final hole of his third round at Chambers Bay with a bout of vertigo, he still managed to finish off his round and take a share of the lead in to the final round. It could have easily been his to win.
His focus, concentration and dedication to his game plan was fascinating all week. This was exemplified on the final round playing with Jordan Spieth. It was vital to stick to his own game plan, which he did brilliantly. He felt that he had to shoot mid 60's to complete the job. It seems all too easy to try and protect a lead and air for level par, but with the standard of players around him, it simply is not enough anymore.
Only time will tell whether it is the start of another big three in the game of golf along side Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth. Unfortunately, it is a long time now until The Masters next year, but excitement is already set in.
